  • Sarita Arteaga, DMD, MAGD

    Sarita Arteaga, DMD, MAGD

    Dr. Arteaga is a three-year high school graduate from St. Catharine Academy in the Bronx, NY and a graduate from New York University’s Washington Square University College with a BA degree in Biology.  After attending the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, she received a DMD degree and then completed a General Practice Residency at Bronx Municipal/Albert Einstein Hospital in the Bronx, NY.  Returning to Connecticut, Sarita was an associate in private dental practice.  After an appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Connecticut, she has been teaching and seeing patients at the Health Center since 1995 and has been promoted to Associate Clinical Professor.  In the Department of Reconstructive Sciences, she is a course director for the Esthetic Dentistry course, Operative Dentistry I course and teaches in Operative Dentistry II, III and IV, as well as the Fixed Prosthodontics pre-clinical course and clinic coverage for students in the third and fourth year dental school classes.  She attained a Mastership from the Academy of General Dentistry, and is a member of numerous dental associations, including the Hispanic Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, National Dental Association, and American Dental Education Association.  Sarita is the Past-President for the Hispanic Dental Association and currently serves as the Chair of the HDA Foundation.  She is a faculty advisor for the Student National Dental Association/Hispanic Student Dental Association at the University of Connecticut School Dental Medicine.  She also serves on the Admissions Committee.  Dr. Arteaga takes an active community role, performing screenings at the Head Start program in Waterbury and Meriden, the Special Olympics and South Park Inn Homeless Shelter in Hartford.  At Connecticut Dance Theater in Watertown, Sarita has taken dance classes and served on the Board of Directors from 1997-2007.  She currently serves on the Board for Pilgrim Pines Conference Center, an Evangelical Covenant Facility.  Sarita is married to Dr. Christopher Carrington and has 2 children, Elena (age 18) and Isaiah (age 15).

    Jen Blake graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry’s Dental Assisting Program.

    Her career as a dental assistant started as a chairside assistant.  After receiving her expanded functions training, Ms. Blake became a faculty member at the Indiana University School of Dentistry TEAM Clinic working with senior dental students teaching them how to work with expanded duty assistants in a private practice simulated environment.  Jen went on to become an instructor at Professional Careers Institute, an ADA Accredited Dental Assisting Program in Indianapolis, Indiana, and later served as their Program Administrator and Placement Counselor.  She is also a past Editorial Director for the Dental Assistant Journal.

    A member of the American Dental Assistants Association, Jen has served all positions in the Indianapolis Dental Assistants Society, Indiana Dental Assistants Association, Sixth District Trustee, Vice President and President-elect to the American Dental Assistants Association.  She served as ADAA President from 1997-1998.  She is also a past member of the Indiana State Department of Health Radiological Technology Certification Committee.

    Jen is certified by the Dental Assisting National Board, licensed in Indiana in limited dental radiography, and a Master of the American Dental Assistants Association.

    Ms. Blake is currently serving as the ADAA Director of Education and Professional Relations.

    Mary Ann Haisch, RDH, MPH

    Mary Ann Haisch is an assistant professor in the School of Dentistry at Oregon Health & Science University.  She received her dental hygiene education from Clark College, Vancouver, WA, her Bachelor of Science in Health Education, certification in gerontology and her master in Public Administration from Portland State University.  Her areas of interest include the use of technology in dental and dental hygiene education, interactive distant learning, the use of the Internet for dental continuing education and is actively involved in the development of faculty tools to incorporate interactive technology in dental and dental hygiene curriculums.  She is also involved in the recruitment and retention of dental and dental hygiene students.  She is an educational consultant and speaker for Procter & Gamble, has held offices in the American Dental Education Association and is on the editorial board for the Journal of Practical Hygiene.

     

    Presently Ms. Haisch is faculty emeritus in the School of Dentistry and coordinates community outreach activities and continues to see patients.

    Salme Lavigne received her dental hygiene education from the University of Toronto, a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Anthropology from Lakehead University, a Master of Science degree in Dental Hygiene Education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, School of Dentistry, and is enrolled in PhD studies in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Manitoba.  She also received certification in Advanced Periodontics and Local Anesthesia from Northern Arizona University and Nitrous Oxide Sedation from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

    Prof. Lavigne has over 30 years experience in Dental Hygiene Education and administration in both Canada and the United States.  Currently she is a Professor and Director of the School of Dental Hygiene at the University of Manitoba.  She teaches periodontics and local anesthesia to both second year dental and dental hygiene students.

    Prof. Lavigne is the author of many peer reviewed journal articles as well as three text book chapters.  She is a popular speaker who has delivered over 50 continuing education and research presentations in Canada, the United States, Scandinavia, China and the Netherlands.  She has also held several professional offices, most notably the Presidency of the Canadian Dental Hygienists' Association, served as the Councilor for the Section on Dental Hygiene Education for the American Dental Education Association, and was a commissioner for the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada.

    Steven Schwartz, DDS

    Dr. Schwartz received his DDS degree from the New York College of Dentistry and did his postgraduate training and residency in Pediatric Dentistry at the Jewish Hospital and Medical Center of Brooklyn.  He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

     

    Dr. Schwartz maintained a private practice in Pediatric Dentistry for over 30 years.  He is currently Director of the Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program at Staten Island University Hospital.  Dr. Schwartz is a consultant to the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation and the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

     

    Dr. Schwartz has written and lectured extensively on pediatric dentistry, practice management and life management topics.  He is the author of “It’s Your Choice; Creating a Blueprint for Total Professional and Personal Success” and editor of “Conversational Spanish in Pediatric Dentistry”.  As a contributor to the Procter & Gamble Crest/Oral-B professional website (www.dentalcare.com), he has developed numerous continuing education courses and patient education programs (The Happy Tooth Magic Show, Healthy Smiles Forever) in pediatric dentistry.

    Faye Stokes

    Faye Stokes is a third year dental student Indiana University School of Dentistry.  Originally from Michigan City, Indiana, Faye attended Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana where she earned a B.S. in Nutrition Science with minors in Biology, Chemistry, and Psychology as a Ruth Mary Griswold Scholar, a Cox Scholar, and a Hutton Honors Scholar.  While in Bloomington she served as President of the Indiana University Ski and Snowboard Club.  It was in her service to this organization that she developed an interest in graphics and web design, which she continued in dental school, serving as the DDS Class of 2014 Webmaster.  As the webmaster, she aids the dental school in its integration of computers and technology in dental education, and she works with students and professors to support technology in classroom and clinical education.  After dental school, Faye looks forward to returning to her home town as a general dentist.

    Dr. Terézhalmy is Professor and Dean Emeritus, School of Dental Medicine, Case Western Reserve University.  In addition, he is a Consultant, Naval Postgraduate Dental School, National Naval Medical Center; and Civilian National Consultant for Dental Pharmacotherapeutics, Department of the Air Force.

     

    Dr. Terézhalmy earned a B.S. degree from John Carroll University; a D.D.S. degree from Case Western Reserve University; an M.A. in Higher Education and Human Development from The George Washington University; and a Certificate in Oral Medicine from the National Naval Dental Center.  Dr. Terézhalmy is certified by the American Board of Oral Medicine and the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (Life).

     

    Dr. Terézhalmy has many professional affiliations and over the past 40 years, has held more than 30 positions in professional societies.  He has served as editor or contributing editor for several publications, co-authored or contributed chapters for several books and has had over 200 papers and abstracts published.  Dr. Terézhalmy has accepted invitations to lecture before many local, state, national, and international professional societies.

    Dr. John N. Williams serves as the Dean of the Indiana University School of Dentistry a position he has held June 15, 2010.  Prior to this time, he served as dean at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry (2005-2010) and the University of Louisville School of Dentistry (1999-2005).  Dr. Williams previously served as Associate Dean for Educational Programs at Louisville for over seven years.  Dr. Williams served concurrently in the Office of the Provost, University of Louisville (1988-91) as an Assistant University Provost.
