This continuing education course presents information on the maintenance of dental implants, including:  1) how to probe dental implants; 2) approaches to clean dental implants professionally during maintenance and peri-implantitis treatment; and 3) home care options for dental implants.

When you complete a continuing education course on, a form will come up that requests your name, address, etc.  If you are a member of the AGD, make sure to fill out the field that asks for your AGD membership number (if you are not an AGD member, leave blank).  When you hit submit, a copy of the "proof of completion" is e-mailed directly to the AGD and P&G.  For your records, make sure to print a copy of the "proof of completion" certificate.

Dr. Fridus van der Weijden graduated in 1984 from the State University Dental School in Utrecht, the Netherlands, where he also received his training as a periodontist and was accredited by the Dutch Society of Periodontology in 1990.  He defended his thesis entitled, 'The use of models and indices in plaque and gingivitis trials' in 1993.  In 2005 he received accreditation as an 'Implant-specialist' by the Dutch Society of Oral Implantology.

Since 1986 Dr. van der Weijden divides his time between the Clinic for Periodontology Utrecht and the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam.  The main focus of his research is the treatment and prevention of periodontal diseases.

He is a frequent lecturer in postgraduate courses and the author of the book entitled, 'The Power of Ultrasonics' and the co-author and co-editor of the book 'Preventive Dentistry'.  Dr. van der Weijden has also authored and co-authored approximately 60 national and 130 international publications.

Dick Barendregt finished dental school in 1988 at the Rijksuniversiteit van Groningen.  He worked as a dentist in the Royal Dutch Navy in several private practices for a period of 5 years.  In 1991, he started his Master of Science training in periodontology at the University of Amsterdam.  After finishing his training in 1994, he worked as a periodontist in 2 referral clinics restricted to periodontology.  In 1996, he founded his own clinic in Rotterdam.  In his clinic he works as a specialist in periodontology and implantology.  The last 10 years the emphasis in patient treatment has been on the interdisciplinary planning (Aldentis) together with endodontists, orthodontist, prosthetic dentist, dental technicians and oral surgeons.  He is cofounder of the EndoRotterdam en PRORotterdam.  Both clinics are closely related to the Clinic for Periodontology and are addresses for dentists to refer their patients to either endodontists or prosthetic/reconstructive specialists.  From 1995 to 2001 Dick Barendregt was on the board of the Dutch Society of Periodontology (NVvP) as treasurer.  In this period he was the representative for the Netherlands with the EFP.  Dick Barendregt works at the University of Amsterdam and lectures in both national and international meetings.  November 4, 2009 he received his PhD degree on his thesis “Probing around teeth”.

Anna Louropoulou graduated in 2002 from the Dental School of Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece.  In 2004, she started her postgraduate training in periodontology in the Academic Center for Dentistry in Amsterdam, The Netherlands from where she graduated in 2007.  Her master thesis entitled “Mannose-binding lectin gene polymorphisms in relation to periodontitis” won a Graduate Research Prize from the European Federation of Periodontology.  Since 2007 Anna divides her time between the Clinic of Periodontology Rotterdam where she practices periodontology and implantology and the Academic Center for Dentistry Amsterdam where she is doing her PhD about the cleaning of implant surfaces.  At the same time, Anna provides clinical training in post-academic students and works as a research leader with a group of dental hygienists.

Dagmar Else Slot began her career as a dental hygienist in 1997 after receiving her diploma in Dental Hygiene.  Since then she worked in a public practice and then taught as a dental hygiene faculty member at the universities in Utrecht and Amsterdam.  In 2005, Dagmar received her Master of Science degree from the University of Amsterdam, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in Evidence Based Practice.  In 2006 she received a bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene.

Since 2007 Dagmar has worked as a researcher in the Department of Periodontology of the Academic Center for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA) for the group focused on preventive and therapeutic procedures.  She has participated in systematic reviews and clinical research.  Dagmar is an associate editor of the International Journal of Dental Hygiene.
