2011-2012 WINNERS

Olga Torres, RDH

Olga Torres, Registered Dental Hygienist, has been practicing dental hygiene for five years, holding a dental hygiene degree from Palm Beach Community College. Olga resides in Clewiston, FL, where she also works as the sole dental hygienist at the Florida Community Health Center.

Olga frequently works with pediatric patients, sometimes seeing up to 15 children a day for dental cleanings. She has a passion for these patients and dedicates much of her free time giving presentations to both kids and their parents to teach them about the importance of oral health. She also utilizes her bilingual skills to communicate with migrant patients facing language barriers in her community.

When Olga is not working or volunteering, she is in school part-time pursuing a bachelor’s degree or spending time with her 16-year-old daughter. She also guest-hosts a local radio show a few times a year, covering a variety of dental health and hygiene topics.

Olga relies on Crest and Oral-B products for maintaining her own oral hygiene, as well as her patients’. Among her favorite products is the Crest and Oral-B Pro-Health For Me Collection for her pre-teen patients.

Transcript Pros in the Profession Video – Olga T

INTRO (voice over)
This year Crest Oral-B is recognizing Registered Dental Hygienists who go above and beyond the call of duty with the Pros in the Profession Award Program.

OLGA T., RDH – Pros in the Profession Year Two Winner
My reaction to winning the Pros in the Profession, I was speechless at first. I do feel like I deserve it because I do a whole lot, not just within the organization, but outside the organization.

ADRIANA S. – Social Worker in Community
Olga is a Pro in the Profession because she goes a little further than her job requires. Olga is always there for our kids.

OLGA T., RDH – Pros in the Profession Year Two Winner
Well I do presentations for the Migrant Program afterhours and I don’t mind because I come from that background and I understand.

CHRISTINA M. – Dental Assistant
We have a lot of underprivileged children in our community that don’t have toys, don’t have clothing, don’t have any kind of oral hygiene and Olga brought that to them, to show them how to floss, how to brush their teeth properly and educate them on oral health.

ARMANDO S., DMD – Colleague
They can relate to her because a lot of Mexican Americans that come to this community feel comfortable dealing with someone who is of the same culture, who has their same beliefs, their same attitudes, their same understandings.

OLGA T., RDH – Pros in the Profession Year Two Winner
I am constantly talking with parents, constantly talking to the kids, constantly demonstrating oral homecare and also stressing to the parents how important it is to bring the kids to their appointments.

CHRISTINA M. – Dental Assistant
She will stop doing whatever she is doing for a child, for someone in need, for the underprivileged.

ARMANDO S., DMD – Colleague
She walks the talk. You know what she says, she means. And if she tells you this is what you can do, you can do it. She inspires people.

OLGA T., RDH – Pros in the Profession Year Two Winner
You have to care to be able to go out in the community and do this on personal time.

ARMANDO S., DMD – Colleague
Olga Torres is very well deserving of this award. She is a very compassionate, loving person and needs to be recognized as such in this community and outside of this community.

CHRISTINA M. – Dental Assistant
She was the nominee for me. If you were to line one million people up, she would have been the person I chose

OLGA T., RDH – Pros in the Profession Year Two Winner
I do believe I’m making an impact on the kids that are growing up today, here, in this town.

ADRIANA S. – Social Worker in Community
Really as a mentor and a role model to our children, it’s very very important because most of our families know her. They look up to her and they see someone that they could one day become.

OLGA T., RDH – Pros in the Profession Year Two Winner
I was told by two high schoolers, ‘Oh, we want to be a dental hygienist too!’ I feel like that’s telling me I am making an impact.
