Step 7: The framework with the attached impression tray(s) is placed in the patien's mouth and any overextensions of the acrylic tray(s) are removed. |

| Step 8: The next step is to border mold the impression tray(s) using either modeling plastic impression compound or a polyether impression material.8 Any excess border molding material should be removed from the internal surface of the impression tray(s) to provide adequate space for the impression material. Care should be exercised during the border molding process to prevent the material being used from flowing into mandibular lingual undercuts and interfering with the path of insertion of the RPD. | |

Step 9: Relief holes are prepared in the acrylic tray using a #8 round bur to permit the escape of excess impression material. This is done to reduce the possibility of soft tissue distortion when the impression is made. |
