HemangiomaHemangiomas occur within the first decade of life, typically within the first year. A female predilection is evident. The lesion may be localized or diffuse, red to blue in color, and flat or nodular. Hemangiomas are soft and blanch when compressed. Common sites of occurrence are the lips, tongue, and buccal mucosa. Hemorrhage from trauma is common. Hemangiomas may undergo spontaneous involution or may be successfully treated without recurrence by surgical excision, the use of sclerosing agents, or cryotherapy. |
