Jessica Ridpath is a writer and editor who specializes in improving the readability of print materials. She is currently the Research Communications Coordinator at the Group Health Center for Health Studies in Seattle. For the past three years, Jessica has been spearheading a readability initiative to address health literacy concerns related to print materials given to research participants. Jessica is also at the forefront of a plain language initiative currently being implemented within Group Health’s delivery system. In her daily work, Jessica provides plain language training and editing services to Group Health research teams and their collaborators. Working with a team of researchers and communications specialists, Jessica led the development of a “Readability Toolkit” – a comprehensive, public-domain resource designed to help researchers and other health care professionals create easy-to-read print materials.
