Overview

Soft tissue deformities present unique challenges for the dental team. Techniques to thicken phenotypes, cover exposed roots or implant parts, and/or increased the band of attached, keratinized tissue have evolved with the introduction of different graft and restorative materials. In other situations, there is too much tissue and resective surgery may be needed. Learning to readily diagnose, treat, and maintain mucogingival defects and excessive gingival display will set reasonable clinical expectations and improve long-term health and marginal stability.
