Uncontrolled hypertension is one of the leading causes of preventable death worldwide, driving heart attacks, strokes, kidney disease, and vascular damage. It rarely acts alone, often amplifying risk when combined with conditions such as diabetes, dyslipidemia, obesity, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), dementia, and pregnancy-related complications. In the dental setting, hypertension directly impacts patient safety, treatment decisions, wound healing, and oral–systemic health. This presentation investigates the science behind blood pressure regulation, accurate measurement protocols, and the growing evidence linking hypertension with periodontal inflammation, vascular dysfunction, and airway disorders.
Dental professionals are uniquely positioned to detect early warning signs, identify systemic risks, and support timely medical referrals.
