The goal of antihypertensive therapy is to reduce target-organ damage and death.16,17 The 2014 Guideline for the Management of High Blood Pressure in Adults recommends that in the general population ≤60 years of age, if the blood pressure is ≥140/90 mm Hg, the treatment goal should be a BP of ≤140/90 mm Hg; in the general population ≥60 years of age, if the blood pressure is ≥150/90 mm Hg, the treatment goal should be a BP of ≤150/90 mm Hg.16
