The dosage of LA’s should be reduced in patients taking other CNS depressants as they are additive. Caution is also recommended when administering LAs with a vasoconstrictor and the patient is taking tricyclic antidepressants, some β1-adrenergic receptor antagonists, and some general anesthetics. These agents may cause severe hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, and cerebrovascular accidents. Evidence of interactions with antipsychotic agents and thyroid hormone is less compelling.21-25,78
