Consolidation Phase of Therapy

After an acceptable level of control of the disease or disorder has been achieved, gradual tapering of medication, frequency of use and/or potency should be initiated while the patient is carefully monitored at 2-3 week intervals. The goal is to achieve complete remission or minimize symptoms and, if possible, to discontinue therapy. If the lesions are slow to heal, the intensity of therapy may need to be increased or an alternative medication selected.84
