LA’s dosage should be reduced in patients taking other CNS depressants as they are additive. Caution is recommended when administering LAs with a vasoconstrictor to the patient taking tricyclic antidepressants, some β1-adrenergic receptor antagonists, and some general anesthetics. These agents may cause severe hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, and cerebrovascular accidents. Evidence of interactions with antipsychotic agents and thyroid hormone is less compelling.6-10
