Infection Control-Related Administrative Policies and Work Restrictions

Course Number: 473

OHCP Infected with the HAV

The hepatitis A virus (HAV) is primarily transmitted by the fecal-oral route, either by person-to-person contact or consumption of contaminated food or water. In oral healthcare settings, administrative policies and work restrictions are primarily predicated on the mode of transmission of these pathogens and the period of infectivity of exposed or infected OHCP.56 Infected OHCP should be restricted from patient contact, contact with patient’s environment, and food-handling until 7 days after onset of jaundice.1,2
