The periodontium is comprised of the gingival unit and the attachment unit or attachment apparatus. The units are further broken down as follows: ¹

Gingival Unit (Figure 1):

• Attached gingiva

• Alveolar mucosa¹

Attachment Unit (Figure 2):

• Cementum

• Alveolar Process

• Periodontal Ligament
