Many people in the U.S. have significant oral health problems due to lack of ready access to oral health care providers. Providing dental services directly where the people live, work, go to school, worship, or receive social services, commonly referred to as community-based care, is one proposed solution to this problem. Providing community-based care requires a team of individuals to establish a successful program that meets the communities’ individual needs. Providing community-based dental care to individuals who lack access can be a rewarding experience for dental professionals when they know how to establish a community-based clinic.
