Dr. Arteaga is a three-year high school graduate from St. Catharine Academy in the Bronx, New York and a graduate from New York University’s Washington Square University College with a BA degree in Biology. After attending the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, she received a DMD degree and then completed a General Practice Residency at Bronx Municipal/Albert Einstein Hospital in the Bronx, New York. She has also completed a Master’s degree in Counseling from Liberty University. Returning to Connecticut, Sarita was an associate in private dental practice. She has been teaching and seeing patients at UConn Health since 1995 and has been promoted to Associate Clinical Professor and Associate Dean for Students. In the Department of Craniofacial Sciences, she is a course director for the Esthetic Dentistry course, Operative Dentistry I and II courses and teaches in Operative Dentistry III and IV, as well as the Fixed Prosthodontics pre-clinical course and clinic coverage for students in the second, third and fourth year dental school classes. She attained a Mastership from the Academy of General Dentistry, and is a member of numerous dental associations, including the Hispanic Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, National Dental Association, and American Dental Education Association. Sarita is the Past-President for the Hispanic Dental Association (2008-2009) and currently serves as the President of the HDA Foundation. She is a faculty advisor for the Student National Dental Association/Hispanic Student Dental Association at the University of Connecticut School Dental Medicine. She also serves on the Admissions Committee. Dr. Arteaga takes an active community role, performing screenings at the Head Start program in Meriden, the Special Olympics and South Park Inn Homeless Shelter in Hartford.
