Limitations of Visual or Visual - Tactile Lesion Diagnosis
These include the fact that visual or visual-tactile diagnosis requires subjective evaluations to be made by the practitioner. Lesions can go undetected because teeth are typically examined by the naked eye, and there is need for supplemental analysis when faced with clinical signs that will leave a dentist uncertain, including dark occlusal or approximal shadows.11
